Artistic Director & Acting Tutor
RICHARD LINDSELL
Richard Lindsell is an Australian actor, screenwriter, director and producer with over three decades of professional experience across theatre, film, television and documentary production. Trained at Ensemble Acting Studios, Richard brings a deep, practical understanding of performance — not only from the actor’s point of view, but from the perspective of the entire screen storytelling process. Richard is based in Thirroul, in the Northern Suburbs of Wollongong, where he leads acting classes for teens and adults.
As an actor, Richard has appeared in a wide range of Australian television productions including A Country Practice, Heartbreak High, Home and Away, Big Sky, Murder Call, E-Street, GP and Family and Friends, as well as the feature film A Wreck, a Tangle and the made-for-television film, The Phantom Horseman. He played Sgt Colin Cameron in the British/Australian co-production of the WWII mini-series Heroes II - the return about the Heroes of Rimau.
His theatre career includes work with the Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir Street Theatre, Ensemble Theatre, Crossroads Theatre Company and numerous repertory and independent theatres, performing classical, contemporary and Australian works.
Alongside acting, Richard has maintained an extensive career as a writer, director and producer. His screen credits include award-screened short films such as Gone (HOF - Home of Film festival, Berlin and screened at Cannes) as writer and producer, The Bathroom (Tropfest finalist as writer/director), The Bedroom (The Comedy Channel as writer/director), Burnout (Co-writing the screenplay. Screened in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and Edinburgh Film Festival), 6:42 and Get Spiderman, as well as development of feature projects supported by Screen Australia and Screen NSW, including Belly of a Whale and Fables. His television writing credits also include, most notably, the arts documentary series I.O.U. and the drama series Fireflies for ABC Television. He was one of the original freelance writing contributors for IF Magazine (Inside Film) and the writer of “Muerderme”, a satirical internet radio series in the style of a Mexican Telenovela for the launch of the first Guzman y Gomez restaurant in Australia.
In recent years, Richard has continued working across production and post-production, including the 2024 documentary Cyclone Warriors as screenwriter, exploring the aftermath of Cyclone Tracy and the Australian Defence Force response on it’s 50th anniversary. His broader industry experience includes editing, live streaming, set construction, educational video content, podcast writing, producing and performing, and freelance voice-over artist. He is also the creator and producer of “The Kennardley Talkstriaght Show”, a podcast series of (not so serious) interviews with many of the most important figures in history from the fields of Science, Art and War.
This breadth of professional experience underpins Richard’s approach to teaching screen acting. Students benefit from training that reflects real industry practice and an understanding of how performances are shaped by script, camera and editing.
